The Palestinian-American Rashida Tlaib and her two compatriots of Somali origin, Ilhan Omar and Zainab Muhammad, won 3 seats for the Democratic Party, in the midterm elections for Congress.
For the third time for both, Rashida won a seat in the House of Representatives from Michigan, while Ilhan won a seat from Minnesota.
For her part, Zainab Muhammad became the youngest woman elected to the Senate from Minnesota, according to preliminary results.
Muslim women representatives are constantly exposed to hostile campaigns, most notably from AIPAC, the largest and most powerful Jewish lobby organization in the United States.
This organization has intensified its efforts in recent months in an effort to defeat Israel's critics in Congress, led by Representative Rashida and her colleague Ilhan.
The Republican and Democratic parties are vying for all 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 of the Senate's 100 seats.
The two parties are also vying for 36 of the 50 state governorships.
